Ward 28 Councillor Ntandoyenkosi Ndlovu has applauded Mkhithika Primary School for emerging as the Most Developed School under the Bulawayo City Council (BCC) merit awards, while rallying parents, educators and community leaders to deepen their collective commitment to shaping a stronger future for learners.

Ndlovu made the remarks while addressing a School Development Committee (SDC) Annual General Meeting held on May 15, 2026, at the school. The AGM brought together parents, teachers, school authorities and community stakeholders, with members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police Community Relations Liaison Office (CRLO) also in attendance.

The councillor congratulated the Cowdray Park school for the milestone recognition, which followed significant infrastructure upgrades. These include the construction of a basketball court, a modern kitchen, a fowl run, the tiling of all classrooms, and the installation of solar systems to support the school gardens—developments that impressed adjudicators during BCC’s annual awards ceremony honouring top-performing schools and learners.

“This achievement is not accidental. It is the product of cooperation between the local authority, school leadership, parents and the community,” Ndlovu said in his address. “Mkhithika Primary has shown what is possible when we work together with a shared vision.”

Ndlovu underscored the broader meaning of the award, saying:
“Recognition is important, but its true value lies in how it inspires us to do even more for our children.”

On the sidelines of the AGM, Ndlovu expanded on the theme of collective responsibility in an interview with this reporter, calling for sustained participation by all stakeholders in building the future of education in Cowdray Park.

“As leaders, we’re here to drive change, to push boundaries, and to ensure our community thrives,” he said. “Mkhithika Primary is a beacon of hope, and I’m proud to see the impact our collective efforts are having. From improved classroom infrastructure to enhanced educational programs, we’ve made strides together.”

However, the councillor cautioned against complacency, urging parents, teachers and local leaders to view the award as a springboard rather than a finish line.

“But we can’t stop now. Our work is far from over,” he said. “We need to focus on tangible results—better resources, safer environments, and opportunities for our kids to excel beyond the classroom. Let’s work together to make Mkhithika a model for excellence, not just in our district, but across the nation.”

Ndlovu paid tribute to parents, teachers and the SDC for their commitment, noting that strong collaboration between the school and the community was already yielding visible results.

“To the parents, teachers, and school leadership—your dedication doesn’t go unnoticed. Your hard work is shaping the future leaders of Zimbabwe,” he said.

He summed up his message with a rallying call that resonated with the gathering:
“At Mkhithika Primary we’re not just building schools; we’re building futures. Let’s keep pushing forward, together, for a brighter tomorrow.”
