HARARE, Zimbabwe — Prominent cleric Prophet Passion Java has placed former Cabinet minister Dr. Walter Mzembi at the centre of a sobering national conversation after releasing what he described as a CHADASH (new season) prophecy concerning the detained former diplomat, whose legal and health challenges continue to mount behind bars.
In a statement issued following on Sunday, Prophet Java said he was shown a solemn vision about Mzembi — “a soul entrusted with the wisdom of the Nation” — facing a grave spiritual moment that transcends politics, courts and human influence.
The prophecy, anchored firmly in scripture, draws directly from Isaiah 38 and 2 Kings 20, where the prophet Isaiah delivers a death pronouncement to King Hezekiah, only for the sentence to be reversed after repentance, tears and divine intervention.
“Is this a dark spectre, bereft of human influence or political machinations, seeking to claim his life?” Java asked in the prophetic message, before calling on the nation to intercede so that Mzembi may “order his house” and turn fully to God.
Unlike conventional political commentary, Java’s message does not accuse institutions nor predict inevitable death. Instead, it frames Mzembi’s predicament as a Hezekiah moment — a window where judgment and mercy coexist.
In biblical context, the instruction to “set your house in order” was not merely administrative; it was spiritual. Hezekiah’s story ended not in death, but in an extension of life after repentance and prayer. Java’s explicit reference to this passage has fueled widespread debate over whether Mzembi’s crisis signals an impending end or a call to deep transformation.
Faith leaders interpreting the prophecy say the emphasis is clear: death is not declared, but danger is acknowledged, and the outcome is portrayed as conditional — dependent on repentance, faith and intercession.
The prophecy emerges at a time when Mzembi, a former Minister of Tourism and later Foreign Affairs, remains in remand prison after courts denied him bail following his return to Zimbabwe in mid-2025.
He faces charges linked to criminal abuse of office and the alleged misappropriation of state property dating back to his time in government. His prolonged absence from court after being granted permission to seek medical treatment abroad weighed heavily against him when he sought freedom pending trial.
Compounding his legal woes are persistent reports of deteriorating health, including allegations that he collapsed in custody and was later hospitalised with heart-related complications. While authorities have not officially declared his condition terminal, the reports have intensified concern — and given Prophet Java’s message a chilling immediacy.
