WATCH: Nkulumane Ward 23 Councillor Ntombizodwa Khumalo endorses Mothusi “Madlela” Ndlovu

BULAWAYO — Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Nkulumane Ward 23 Councillor, Ntombizodwa Khumalo, has publicly endorsed Mothusi “Madlela” Ndlovu—popularly known in entertainment circles as Madlela Skhobokhobo—to win the Nkulumane parliamentary by-election scheduled for 20 December.

The endorsement, captured on video and circulating widely on social media platforms, comes as the constituency prepares to choose a new Member of Parliament following the tragic death of Hon. Desire Moyo, whose passing triggered the poll.

Speaking in Nkulumane, Khumalo described Ndlovu as a candidate with deep roots in the community and the capacity to connect with young people and ordinary residents. She said the by-election required a candidate who understands the daily struggles of Nkulumane and can translate grassroots support into effective representation in Parliament.

“Nkulumane needs a people’s representative—someone who is accessible, grounded and able to mobilise the youth and the wider community,” Khumalo said. “Madlela Ndlovu has shown that connection over the years through his work and engagement with residents.”

Ndlovu, a well-known cultural figure and entertainer, has in recent years expanded his profile beyond the arts into community mobilisation and civic engagement. His candidacy has drawn significant attention, particularly among younger voters, many of whom see his entry into politics as a break from traditional political profiles.

The CCC has been working to consolidate its support base in Nkulumane following Moyo’s death, with party leaders and local officials rallying supporters to retain the seat. Khumalo’s endorsement is viewed by observers as a strategic move aimed at strengthening ward-level mobilisation in Ward 23, one of the constituency’s key voting blocs.

Political analysts note that endorsements from sitting councillors often carry weight in by-elections, where turnout can be influenced by local structures and trusted community voices. “In a constituency like Nkulumane, councillors are close to the electorate,” said a Bulawayo-based political analyst. “Their public backing can help shape perceptions, especially in a short campaign period.”
