Margaret Dongo Praises Tagwirei for “Inspirational” ZCC Speech

Former Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) operative, war veteran, and outspoken opposition figure Margaret Dongo has praised businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei following his recent speech at a Zion Christian Church (ZCC) event in Chegutu.

Dongo, known for her sharp criticism of political and business elites, described Tagwirei’s remarks as “very inspirational” and challenged Zimbabweans to reconsider their views on homegrown millionaires.

“I followed this — very inspirational,” she said. “When are we going to accept having Black millionaires? By the way, how many Zimbabwean millionaires do we acknowledge?”

Dongo went on to contrast public sentiment toward foreign investors and local businesspeople, saying, “We like foreign investors stealing our minerals and becoming millionaires in their countries. Ours are stealing, but much of it remains in the country — for you to be able to scrutinize. Come on, after seeing this, I have different perceptions on our own people.”

The former MP added, “Seen a lot, heard a lot — food for thought. Remember, we also need Zimbabwean millionaires.”

Tagwirei, a prominent businessman often linked to state contracts and controversial deals, has long drawn both criticism and admiration. Dongo’s comments mark a rare moment of reflection from a veteran of Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle who has often taken the establishment to task.
