Cllr Bruce Moyo Declares 2026 Year of “Local Solutions” in Nkulumane

Nkulumane Ward 22 Councillor Mmeli Thobeka Moyo has urged residents to embrace “local solutions for local problems,” declaring that 2026 must mark a turning point where communities take charge of their own development rather than waiting for outside intervention.

Moyo was speaking at Mafela Primary School during the election of the Basic Education Assistance Module (BEAM) selection committee, a meeting attended by hundreds of parents that evolved into a broader discussion on community responsibility and development.

In a firm and pointed address, the councillor challenged residents to abandon dependency and instead harness the strength of local institutions and leadership structures to drive progress in Nkulumane.

“We must adopt a new way of thinking as a community. 2026 is the year of local solutions for local problems. No one is coming to fix Nkulumane for us—we must do it ourselves. Working together with our schools, our clinics, our police, our square leaders and every resident, we can transform this ward. Siyazenzela as a community—we take responsibility, we act, and we build our own future,” said Moyo.

His remarks struck a chord with many attendees, reflecting growing frustration over stalled development projects and limited external support. By centering his message on self-reliance, Moyo positioned grassroots participation as the cornerstone of sustainable development.

He highlighted the importance of institutions already embedded within the ward—particularly schools like Mafela Primary, local clinics, and community policing systems—as key drivers of change when supported by active citizen involvement.

The councillor’s emphasis on the “Siyazenzela” philosophy signals a broader push toward community-driven development, where residents themselves become the primary agents of transformation.

Parents attending the BEAM committee elections also welcomed the call for increased involvement, especially in ensuring transparency and fairness in the selection of beneficiaries.
